Colonel John R. Trovato is the Vice Commander, 143d Airlift Wing, Quonset State Airport, North Kingstown, Rhode Island. In this role he assists the commander in executing the 143d Airlift Wing mission, to serve as the premier C-130J Combat Airpower and Cyber Center of Excellence meeting all federal and state support requirements while providing maximum assistance to our national and international partners. The 143d Airlift Wing employs eight C-130J Super Hercules aircraft globally, and is comprised of over 1100 military and civilian personnel.
Colonel Trovato is a 1999 graduate of the University of Massachusetts – Amherst with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He enlisted in the Massachusetts Air National Guard in 1995 as an Operations Intelligence Specialist in the 104th Fighter Wing, Barnes Air National Guard Base (ANGB), Westfield, Mass., and served in that capacity while attending college. During his senior year in college, he was selected for undergraduate pilot training (UPT) and upon completing UPT at Columbus AFB, Miss. in 2001, he was assigned to fly A-10s with the 131st Fighter Squadron, 104th Fighter Wing, Barnes ANGB, Mass. He deployed to Operation IRAQI FREEDOM in 2003. In 2006, Colonel Trovato joined the 143d Airlift Wing, Rhode Island Air National Guard, to fly the C-130J. Since joining the 143d he has served as Wing Electronic Combat Officer, Chief of Tactics, the Operations Support Squadron Commander, Deputy Operations Group Commander, and Operations Group Commander.
Colonel Trovato is a veteran of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, and Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. Since 2003 he has deployed five times, four with the 143d Airlift Wing. During his most recent deployment he served as the Commander of the 737th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron. In his civilian capacity, Colonel Trovato serves as a patrol sergeant at a municipal police department in northern Connecticut. He is currently on a temporary Active Guard Reserve (AGR) tour with the 143d Airlift Wing serving as the Vice Wing Commander.
